Maros Bike Marathon is an official mountainbike competition for both preofessional and amateur cyclists, organized by Maros Sports Club from Cluj Napoca, under the aegis of the Romanian Cycling and Triathlon Federation and International Cycling Union, registered in the UCI calendar as Class 3.
The competition has two tracks: “Marathon” with 80 km and another half-marathon called “Race” with 50 km. Both tracks will be marked by the organizers and will be held on public roads, forest roads, paths and short road parts from Cluj county.

The competition follow the UCI rules and FRCT rules

1.Date of the competition: Sunday, the 25th of September, 2011

2.Location
2.1.Start-Finnish Zone and race office is located inside Gilau Motel, near Gilau Lake, located about 15 km West of Cluj-Napoca.

3.Program:
3.1.Saturday the 24th of September – 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Registration and validation
3.2.Sunday the 25th of September – 8:00 to 9:00 Validation of online registration (There is no REGISTRATION on the day of the race)

4.Routes and marking
4.1. In 2011 there will be two lengths of tracks, all carried out on forest roads linking villages from Gilau Mountains. Tracks are on route Gilau – Muntele Rece – [Paltinei] – Balta- Racatau – Mount Ijar – Pape – Somesul Cald – Gilau.
- MARATHON 80 km, 2660 m total climb, 1360 max. altitude, 420 m min. altitude, 5 Feed Zones
- RACE 50 km, 1500 m total climb, 1130 m max, 420 m min. alt, 3 Feed Zones

4.2.Tracks will be marked with arrows indicating the direction at intersections (at least one arrow will be placed before the intersection, one in the intersection and one after, to confirm), with “X” for prohibited roads, white marks (BBB Parts) to confirm the track, with strips of red-white tape to change direction (eg, three strips will be placed on the right side with 15 m before a change of direction to the right) , signs with three arrows pointing down for dangerous (sharp) descent parts, with two arrows pointing down to the dangerous speedy descents, with signs announcing the number of km left until arrival, indication for the bridge represented with two brackets ( ] [ ) and passing through the water indicator represented by three horizontal wavy line (~). Asphalt areas will be marked only with white paint. Also where will be allowed (through the woods, on rocks, etc.) there will be confirmation of arrows painted fluorescent color.

5.The Start and completing the route in competition:
5.1.Riders will be divided into three different start-blocks and the Start will be given according to schedule with a lag of several seconds between groups. The first start-block will be reserved for UCI ELITE MEN category, the second will be reserved for all other categories for Marathon and the third will be reserved for the RACE categories.
5.2. The Start will be given in the courtyard of motel Gilau (near reception) following the first 2 km of asphalt until the Somesul Rece, going behind the police car and the Official Car. The technical Start will be soon after the withdraw of the police car.
5.3.The track will be followed in the right direction and only on marked roads / trails, respecting the road rules because the race is in open traffic. Competitors must pass through all checkpoints with the competition number on the handlebars. Competitors will have to be within the time limit imposed by 9:00 on arrival and 7:00 at the intermediate Feed Zone and control at Uzina (with 22 km before the finish).

6.Feed Zones and technical support areas
6.1. The organizer provides five Feed Zones on the track, where participants will find water, fruits and sweets.Three of these will be included in the RACE track. These points are represented on the map and track profile and are points of revitalization, not for serving a hearty meal. Details on ”Track” section.
6.2. The organizer shall appoint three points of technical assistance, reachable by car from the road. But technical assistance is provided by the organizers, each team / competitor with its own staff. However if it is possible, the organizer will provide a neutral point of technical assistance.
6.3. Staff in areas of technical assistance should seek accreditation from the organizer, at the technical meeting. In these areas viewers are not allowed.
6.4. Competitors may change any parts on the bike in these areas, except the bicycle. They must pass the finish line with the same frame and the same number on the handlebars.
7. Competitor’s responsabilities:
7.1.Each competitor is required to sign that he acknowledge the rules and he takes part on his own responsibility, that has a good physical and mental health and that he takes risks that result from participation in this event, including its own or third party injury, damage or theft of equipment and even death.
7.2.Each competitor must have an MTB bike (26er or 29er) in good technical condition
7.3.Each competitor MUST wear helmet
7.4.Each competitor has to listen to the organizers and officials from the track
7.5.The race takes place in open traffic, competitors have to respect the legislation in force on the road all the way including driving on mountain roads.There can be people, carts, cars, animals and even closed wooden gates!
7.6.Is forbidden to use electric bicycles / with engine or tow by another vehicle or another competitor.
7.7.The competition number with chip received from the organizer will be set on the bike in front of the handlebars and will not be removed until after crossing the finish line (or in case of abandonment)
7.8.In case of abandonment, competitors are required to notify officials at arrival
7.9. Competitors must notify at the first control post any problem notified during the competition, especially an injury.
7.10.Competitors must be within the general time limit imposed on arrival 9:00 and 7 hours at the intermediate point at Uzina (24 km before the finish). Competitors who do not fit in the time limit will be placed in ranking with the abbreviation ATL.
7.11.Competitors have to be fair play, to have respect for the environment and put more value on their safety than to get on the top of the ranking.
7.11.Costs related to the travel, accommodation, technical assistance, registration, shall be supported by each participant.

8. Recommendations for competitors:
8.1.Each rider in this event should have a minimum of experience in going through mountain paths, both in terms of physical, mental and orientation.
8.2.It is recommended that any participant have accident insurance covering participation in sports competitions.
8.2.Take a minimum kit with you for technical failure such as tools kit, set of patches and glue.
8.3.Have equipment for cool or rainy weather as mountain weather changes easily. Cape, sleeves and trouser are the most important items that any competitor should have.
8.4. Remember as many details about the track (kilometers, and checkpoints that have passed, etc.), take with you the altitude profile given in the registration package. When seeking help on the way, you should tell exactly where you are. For this the best way would be a GPS device or at least a ciclocomputer to know what you are.
8.5.Pay attention to the markings at any intersection you are going through. If you arrive at an intersection that is not marked, return the same way that you came until you meet marks. The organizers make every effort to keep the track marked on the duration of the events but they does not assume respnsability for degradation by third parties. It is recommended in this case to load the GPS track offered on the site on a GPS device.

9.Penalties:
9.1.not respecting this regulation, not using helmet, shortening the track, lack of fair-play behavior and insults to officials, destruction of the environment (including waste disposal elsewhere than at the Feed Zones) will mean disqualification.
9.2. going to the podium at the official award ceremony with banners, flags or other large items of advertising, will be penalized for the withdrawal of the prize. Riders have the right to promote their sponsors only on their equipment!
9.3.disturbing the peace, destruction of marks, flags, banners, and so on, will be penalized by the officials with 10 minutes in the rankings or even disqualification.
10.Appeals:
participants are entitled to lodge appeals in writing to the registration office counter by paying value of 50 lei, after posting interim results, up to 30 minutes before the award ceremony. Appeals will be resolved within 30 minutes and the fee will be returned only if the appeal will be accepted.
11.Ranking and Awards:
11.1.The ranking are electronic based on disposable chip for both overall results in order of arrival and by age and sex, as you can find on the site, at “Categories and Prizes.”
11.2.Se awarded cash prizes according to UCI (europe b) for Elite and products and cash prizes for top three remaining categories. Details at “Categories and Prizes.”
11.3.Riders who will be awarded will be called on stage for prizes. They have the right to represent their sponsors only on their equipment, not to display banners or flags hat will obstruct the other occupants of the podium or sponsors in the background.
12.Points:
The top five riders in the elite MEN category will accumulate points in UCI world rankings.
13.Cancels! In case of storms, natural disasters, and so on, the organizers reserve the right to cancel the competition. Registered participants will receive a refund of half the fee but not other costs (transport, accommodation, and so on) or will have a place provided for the next edition.
14.Other thinks to know:
14.1.The organizer reserves the right to make changes to information displayed on the site, regulation, program, and so on. These changes will be made available to participants on site at least 7 days before the contest, or in extreme cases when they will be given the contest numbers.
14.2.Also the organizers reserves the right to use images taken at this event to promote Maros Bike Marathon and sponsors involved.
15.Registration:
15.1.It can be done online, at ”Registration”, between the 1st of August and the 23rd of September
15.2.You can register OFFLINE (at Maros Bike shops between the 1st of August and the 23rd of September) or at the race office, a day before the race, on the 24th of September), as scheduled on site, after paying the fee.

16.Registration Fee:
The registration fee will be payed by all the participants as it follows:
16.1.for MARATHON the fee is 70 lei until the si de 16th of September, and after this date will be 90 lei.
16.2.for RACE tthe fee is 50 lei until the 16th of September and 70 lei after this date.
16.3.The fee can be payed at Maros Bike Shops (Cluj-Napoca, Str. Aurel Vlaicu Nr.114 and Calea Floresti Nr.62) or directly in this bank account:

16.4.The fee will not be return in case you don’t come to the race, in case of abandonment, injury, getting lost on the track. The organizers will return only 50% of the fee if in extreme cases, they have to cancel the race or the rider will get a place for the next edition.

17.Validation of entries:
17.1.After completing the registration form and paying the fee, the competitor will receive the start package with the competition number and timing chip, at the program announced.
17.2.The participant registered online will sign a statement of accountability before taking the start package.
17.3.The riders who confirm the registration (pay the registration fee) until the 9th of September will receive personalized number with name or chosen nickname.
